Get started with your hardware wallet — quick, safe setup
Hardware wallets store your private keys offline so you control your crypto. This short guide walks you through an easy, secure first-time setup so you can start using your device with confidence.
- Unbox & verify. Open the sealed package, confirm tamper-evident seals, and only use the official cable included.
- Download official software. From the vendor’s official site, install their companion app — never a third-party tool.
- Connect and initialize. Connect the device to your computer and follow the on-screen device prompts to create a new wallet.
- Write down the recovery phrase. The device shows a 12–24 word seed. Write it down on paper (not digital); store it in two secure locations.
- Set a PIN. Choose a PIN you’ll remember but that’s not easily guessable; the device will lock after wrong attempts.
- Install firmware updates. If prompted, update firmware through the official app — updates often include security fixes.
- Test with a small transfer. Send a small amount to/from the device first to confirm everything works.
Security tips: never share your recovery phrase, avoid entering it on any computer or phone, and treat the phrase as the key to your funds.
